Apostille for studying abroad: degree, transcript and diploma

A foreign university will usually only accept your Canadian degree, transcript and diploma once they carry an Ontario apostille verifying the registrar’s signature. We authenticate all three together in person at ODS so your admission file is not held up by one missing stamp.

Last verified:

Admissions offices abroad cannot judge whether a signature on an Ontario transcript is genuine, so they ask for an apostille — the certificate that a Hague Convention country accepts in place of its own verification. Since Canada joined the Convention on 11 January 2024, Ontario documents are apostilled directly by Official Document Services rather than routed through an embassy.

The catch most students miss is notarization. The Government of Ontario states that public post-secondary degrees and transcripts issued on or after 1 January 2019 can be authenticated directly, while older documents must first be notarized by an Ontario notary public. We check the issue date on every document before filing so nothing bounces at the counter.

Bring the registrar-issued originals, not screenshots or portal PDFs. If your university only releases sealed electronic transcripts, call us first — some institutions abroad accept a notarized printout and others insist on a paper original, and that decision changes which path we take.

Before you order — confirm your specifics

Every university sets its own rules — some want the apostille on the transcript, some on a credential evaluation (WES or, for Italy, CIMEA), and some accept neither. Confirm the exact requirement with your admissions office, then call us and we’ll file precisely what they asked for.
